Maria Bălănean graduated in 2014 from Film Editing and Sound Design at National University of Theatrical Arts and Cinematography “I.L. Caragiale” Bucharest. She edited documentaries that were screened at festivals such as Vision du Reel or Entrevues Belfort. Discovering new cultures throughout her travels made her want to understand humans better, so in 2018 she joined a master program in visual anthropology, during which she directed her first short documentary, ”Triplex Confinium”, which has recently premiered at Astra Film Festival.
POJECT Last Man Standing
An intimate look at the life of Viorel, found at a crossroad in his life, where he witnesses the slow and painful demolition of his workplace.
Viorel is the last employee of the power-plant where he has worked for 35 years. While witnessing the slow death of the place that gave him a purpose in life, he tries to mentally prepare for his imminent retirement. Confronted by his daughter and her memories of a workaholic father, he has a chance to reconsider his past and his future.
